Frequently Asked Questions

Rest assured at The Waxing Spot you do not need to stress about seeing “your person” - We make sure that all of our waxing specialists are highly qualified during our rigorous hiring process, in addition everyone is trained in house by both owners.  Each employee undergoes months of one on one training.  We also do monthly trainings in order to keep everyone educated on the latest industry trends. Our Waxing Salon and Brow Bar offers a variety of treatments to suit all of your hair removal needs. We have a tailored approach and believe every treatment should fit your personal style.  Our vast selection of high quality vegan waxes enables our team to provide our clients with the most comfortable waxing experience.

Q. - What is an Lash Lift?

A: It is a perm for your natural lashes.  Silicon shields are applied to your eyelids then your natural lashes are fixed over the shields.  Solution one lifts the lashes, solution two will set the lashes into the new curved lifted form and the final step is a blue black vegan tint.
We carry 3 different brands that have different strengths.

You can not get your lashes wet, rub your eyes, cry or sleep on your lashes for 48 hours after the service.
Please come in with clean lashes and no mascara.

Q. - What is an Eyebrow Lamination?

A: It is a 3 step process that smoothes out the eyebrow hairs to lift each hair into a fuller and fluffier look.  It is great for adding definition and giving the illusion of a fuller eyebrow shape.  It is best for clients that have long eyebrow hairs and do not trim.
Our Lamination service includes desing, the lamination itself and tint if needed.
If you have any skin conditions such as: Eczema, Acne, Dermatitis, Open skin around the brow area or very sparse / weak hairs you are NOT a good candidate.

Q. - Why remove hair with wax?

A: Because waxing will make your skin feel soft and it lasts much longer than any other temporary method. People also wax because they feel it is more hygienic and that their hair grows back finer and sparser over time.

Q. - Does waxing hurt?

A: Yes, but the pain goes away in seconds and every person's pain tolerance is different. It does get much easier after the first time. If you are extra sensitive or about to get your period please consider taking ibuprofen 45 minutes to an hour prior to your appointment.

Q. - What steps are taken to ensure proper hygiene?

A: At The Waxing Spot, all of our equipment is sterilized by a Tuttnauer 1730 Medical Autoclave. To ensure the highest standards of hygiene, our waxing sticks are dipped into sterile wax, applied to the client once, and then discarded.  All services are carried out with vinyl gloves, our waxing beds are covered with 3ply disposable sheets.  Our counter tops are quartz and cleaned with alcohol 70% proof.

Q. - Are The Waxing Spot employees licensed or specially trained in waxing hair removal?

A: All of our waxing specialists are licensed in the State of Connecticut to help ensure that our clients experience the highest level of service possible. We have required this of our employees since 2009.

Q. - How long should the hair be?

A: At least 1/4 inch or 3-4 weeks of growth, whichever is longer. The longer your hair is, the better results you will get and the longer it will last.

Q. Can I get waxed while I’m on my period?

A: Yes. While you might be more sensitive during this time of the month, you can still wax!

Q. What kind of wax do you use?

A: At our Salon, we carry Australian vegan brand JaxWax that was been the industry leader for over 30 years.
We carry 4 types of hard stripless waxes and 2 types of soft waxes. Each service provider chooses what wax to use based on your personal hair and skin type.
All pre and post oils, lotions and liquids are also vegan and made by JaxWax.

Q. Is everyone trained the same? Or are others better at different services?

A: Everyone at The Waxing Spot is trained in house by the owners with the same techniques and expectation of quality. Some of our waxing specialists have prior experience, but after joining our team, they go through an extended period of training. We are proud to say that our clients experience the same level of professionalism and satisfaction with everyone on our team and most of our clients end up booking solely based on convenience. Every eyebrow designer has a different style of eyebrows, if you’d like to see each team member’s work, head to our Instagram!

Q. What should I do to prepare for my wax?

A: You should have at least 3 weeks of growth between each body wax, and at least 2 weeks between each facial wax. For better results, you should exfoliate the area in between treatments.

Q. - How long does the waxing last?

A: It differs with each person depending on how fast their hair grows. On average, waxing will last between 3-6 weeks depending on the area waxed. Remember the more you wax, the longer it will last!

Q. - What if I am pregnant?

A: You can still get waxed and it is common for moms-to-be to get a Brazilian bikini before giving birth. Please let us know if you are in your 2nd trimester or further along when making the appointment. We will schedule more time to ensure maximum comfort!

Q. - Are there any age restrictions on waxing?

A: We are a family-friendly salon, meaning you must be 18 years old to wax or have parental approval.

Q. What’s the difference between a Regular Bikini, a Spot Bikini, a Brazilian and a Playboy?

A: Our Regular Bikini just waxes the outside of the Bikini Line. Our Spot Bikini waxes a few more inches in and the remaining hair is trimmed. Our Brazilian takes as little or as much off of the front as you want. Our Playboy takes as little or as much off of the front as you want, plus does the back.

Q. Do you take walk ins?

A: We are always open to taking Walk Ins as long as time permits. If you are unable to book your desired appointment, please ask our Front Desk Coordinators to add you to our Automated Cancellation List, and we will do our best to accommodate you!

Q. What is your return policy for your products?

A:  Because of the personal nature of our products, we DO NOT accept returns/refunds for OPENED products. For UNOPENED products, we DO accept returns/refunds for UP TO TWO WEEKS after original purchase.

Q. - When should I not get waxed?

A: If you are in cancer therapy, receiving chemotherapy, or radiation treatment. If you are taking Rx Accutane, Differin, Retin A, Antibiotics, or any medication that may cause sun sensitivity. You should also avoid waxing while using salicylic acid, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, Obagi products, any harsh exfoliants, or any facial peels. All these products thin out your skin and will make you more sensitive and likely to burn or peel. Please wait 2-6 weeks depending on how long you have been on the medication before you wax, as we want to make sure the medications are out of your system. If you are not sure of how you may react from any other prescriptions you are taking, please contact your physician.
